Here is the 2024 creative report card I gave myself

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s time for a sacred annual tradition: Reflecting on the year gone by and pretending I had a perfect plan for all of it.

Spoiler alert: I didn’t. But creativity and creative thinking was at the heart of it all and that’s why it was a roaring success for me personally. And I want to do more of the same next year!

There were bucketloads of little moments that mattered throughout this year and it’s fascinating to see the through-line of creative thinking in them all.

From building bridges (literally) in #LEGOSeriousPlay workshops for big brands (hello, Google and Mediahuis IRL), to energising multiple Canada Life Assurance Europe plc town halls as an MC (In German no less. Ja, wirklich!); or shaping strategic comms & leading C-suite workshops (high fives to TBWA\Ireland and Benifex) and crafting a cultural vision for Dublin (howya, Dublin City Council Culture Company).

I even found time to build/launch this Poetic website, as well as contribute thoughts on creativity to a best-selling book about the future. (Reminder: Creativity is the new job security!)

So, I didn’t have a perfectly linear plan, but I did have a purpose.

Get Creative. Make A Difference. Have Fun.

That was always my compass or my north star, if you will. If you won’t, I completely understand. Those business metaphors can be pretty tiresome. Let’s sync offline about it in Q1.

Speaking of which, it’s time to stop looking back and start looking towards 2025, because I’m not resting on my laurels (although they are very comfortable).

Thankfully my calendar for next year is filling up fast, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that the best creative work often stems from an unplanned deviation into the unknown. Usually it starts with the magic words, “Hey, can we try this…?”

So, as you gather around water coolers or dinner party tables, and someone mentions needing a creative spark at their company, feel free to tell them about me. Referrals, after all, are worth a million LinkedIn posts.

Thanks to everyone who partnered, played, created and chatted with me this year. Every moment was mighty (#grateful). Here’s to a 2025 filled with many more unplanned adventures in creativity.
