I am always seeking out great new art that inspires, delights and excites me, which means that I spend a good percentage of the year consuming different creative work. In fairness, if you want to create, you need to find sparks elsewhere too. So, rather than creating a standard end of year “Best Of 2025” list, I have compiled a set of subjective, made-up awards (aren’t they all?) that I like to call The Kallys®.
This is my third year of doing this Kallys® round-up (2024 Kallys® | 2023 Kallys®) and while it is mostly done in jest, it is actually a wonderful way to reflect on all of the creative influences and ideas of the past year. And to then filter through them, to find the ones that still resonate, is a really lovely thing to do.
This year felt like the balance of creative input and output was weighted slightly differently. I have been busy working on a major creative project for radio that will hopefully see fruition in 2026 (more on that anon). So, my creative output has thankfully been way higher than previous years. As such, these lists are effectively just the tip of the creative iceberg, because there are quite a few things that didn’t make the list (even though I put in some time with them) and, ultimately, I didn’t consume as much overall.
So, without further ado (which effectively is further ado) below are my top picks for TV, , Books, Music, Films and Podcasts. I hope you enjoy the selections and feel free to pass them off as your own when someone comes to you with a request for a cool recommendation.
